CIW wanted to create a multilayered website that included portals to showcase the great work of a long list of members and affiliates. Its previous web presence consisted of a site to which articles on many topics were posted without a content management or marketing strategy. They came to us looking for a large site that could showcase all their great work in a meaningful way.
Among the biggest challenges were the number of voices within the organization to accommodate; centralizing the Brand amidst the diversity of the portals; and working through many technology constraints that included building bridges between iMember360, Infusionsoft, WordPress multisite, WooCommerce, and various other plug-ins that all had to work together systematically.
Our approach—after discussions and laying out what was required—was to establish an architecture and a brand identity that conveyed cohesiveness. To do that, we created 24 minisites (some we also designed) within a larger webplex and created a structure for page content. To navigate this webplex, we created a symbol (a tree) to serve as the centralizing mechanism between the portals and to represent that all the branches of the organization have one root.
While the project has not yet launched, the client has a web fortress, a centralized brand, an ecosystem to support their great work, and a storefront to sell products and memberships. The entire project took much longer than expected to complete—it was 5,000+ pages of complexity.
